He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits and pastures 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces will shine, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
