Seest thou one who turns back, 33 And he gave a little, then refrained? 34 Does he have knowledge of the hidden, so he can foresee? 35 Has he not been made acquainted with what was written in the scriptures of Moses? 36 and Abraham, who paid his debt in full? 37 That no soul shall bear another's burden, 38 And that man shall have nothing but what he strives for- 39 and that in time [the nature of] all his striving will be shown [to him in its true light,] 40 And only then will he receive his recompense in full; 41 and that the final end is with your Lord, 42 That it is He Who granteth Laughter and Tears; 43 and that it is He who causes to die, and causes to live 44 It is He who has created spouses, male and female, 45 From the small seed when it is adapted 46 and on Him depends the life hereafter. 47 and that it is He who gives riches and causes to hoard, 48 And that He only is the Lord of the star Sirius? 49 and that He destroyed Ad, the ancient, 50 Thamud, 51 Like the people of Noah before them, who were surely oppressors and rebellious; 52 And He overthrew the Cities of the Plain, 53 and then covered them from sight forever. 54 Then which of the gifts of thy Lord, (O man,) wilt thou dispute about? 55 THIS IS a warning like those warnings of old: 56 The Day of Judgment is drawing nearer. 57 None besides Allah can avert it, (or advance it, or delay it). 58 Do you then wonder at this recital (the Quran)? 59 Will you laugh at it rather than weep? 60 While you are proudly sporting? 61 [Nay,] but prostrate yourselves before God, and worship [Him alone]! ۩ 62
