The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 And shade extended 30 and flowing water, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And carpets raised. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 and made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 for the people of the right hand 38
