Thamood, belied their Messengers. 141 Their brother Salih said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 142 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 143 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 144 For this I ask of you no wage; my wage falls only upon the Lord of the Worlds. 145 "Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] in the midst of what you have here and now? 146 In gardens and fountains, 147 and cornfields, and palm-trees laden with fruit -- 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 And do not obey the order of the transgressors, 151 and spread mischief in the land rather than set things right." 152 Said they: "Thou art but one of the bewitched! 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed. 155 And do not touch her with harm, lest you be seized by the punishment of a terrible day." 156 But they hamstrung her and then regretted it. 157 So the punishment overtook them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 158 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 159
