In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O the One Wrapped in piety! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) 1 rise (to pray) the night except a little; 2 It may be half the night or a little less than that 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 We are about to reveal to you a mighty word. 5 Surely, getting up at night [for worship] is the most potent means of subduing the self and most suitable for the word [of prayer]. 6 Indeed during the day you have a long schedule of occupations. 7 Remember the name of your Lord, and devote yourself to Him wholeheartedly. 8 He is the only Lord, so choose Him as your guardian. 9 And bear patiently the vain things they utter, and gracefully forsake them. 10 And leave them to Me – these wealthy deniers – and give them some respite. 11 We have prepared for them fetters, flaming fire, 12 and a food that chokes, and a grievous chastisement. 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Lo! We have sent unto you a messenger as witness against you, even as We sent unto Pharaoh a messenger. 15 But the Pharaoh disobeyed the apostle; so We seized him with a grievous punishment. 16 How, then, will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, on the day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. 18 This is indeed a Reminder. Let whosoever will take the Path to his Lord. 19
