Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 troubled and tired as a result of their deeds in the past. 3 They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire. 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 hearing there no babble; 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions ranged! 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not a warden over them, 22 But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 Then verily on Us is their reckoning. 26
