A company of the former peoples 39 and also a large throng from those of later times. 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 For, behold, in times gone by they were wont to abandon themselves wholly to the pursuit of pleasures, 45 and persisted in the great sin 46 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Say: 'Those of ancient times and those of later times 49 shall all be brought together on an appointed Day. 50 Then verily ye, O ye erring, denying people. 51 shall eat the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. 56 We have created you, why do you not then assent? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 Do you make a human out of it, or is it We Who create? 59 We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated 60 from replacing you by others like yourselves or changing your forms and re-creating you in forms that you know nothing of. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 Have ye seen that which ye cultivate? 63 Is it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 Surely we are burdened with debt: 66 Rather, we have been prevented' 67 And have you seen the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 Have you considered the fire you kindle? 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty. 74
