The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the sky is torn apart, 1 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should; 2 and when the earth is leveled, 3 And throws out whatever it contains and is empty, 4 and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed! 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 Then whoso is given his account in his right hand 7 he will in time be called to account with an easy accounting, 8 And return to his people in happiness. 9 But he who is given the Record behind his back, 10 he will pray for utter destruction 11 and roast at the Blaze. 12 Indeed he used to rejoice in his home. 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Yea! his Lord had ever been beholding him. 15 So indeed I call to witness the evening twilight, 16 or by the night in which things all come together to rest, 17 and the moon when it is at the full, 18 That ye shall journey on from plane to plane. 19 What is wrong with them that they do not believe? 20 When the Quran is read to them, why do they not fall to their knees? ۩ 21 Nay, but those who disbelieve will deny; 22 but God knows best whatever they accumulate in their hearts. 23 Hence, give them the tiding of grievous suffering [in the life to come] 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
