Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Ha. Mim. 1 I swear by the illustrious Book. 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 A Mercy from your Lord, He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 yet, they toy with their doubts. 9 So you await the day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. – 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 O our Sustainer, relieve us of suffering, for, verily, we [now] believe [in Thee]!" 12 How can a warning benefit them? The Apostle who explained all things clearly had come to them, 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! 16 ۞ We tried Pharaoh's nation before them. A noble Messenger came to them, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 And [saying], "Be not haughty with Allah. Indeed, I have come to you with clear authority. 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 And leave the sea becalmed; they are a drowned host.' 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 And cornfields and noble places! 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
