The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
WHEN THE SUN is shrouded in darkness, 1 and when the stars lose their light, 2 And when the mountains are driven. 3 And when milch camels roam abandoned. 4 When the wild beasts are herded together (in the human habitations); 5 when the seas shall be set boiling, 6 when the souls are divided into different classes, 7 And when the girl [who was] buried alive is asked 8 for what crime she had been slain, 9 when the scrolls shall be unrolled, 10 when the sky is unveiled, 11 when Hell shall be set blazing, 12 when Paradise is brought near, 13 Every soul shall (then) know what it has prepared. 14 Oh, but I call to witness the planets, 15 And by the planets that move swiftly and hide themselves, 16 And by the night when it departeth, 17 and the morn as it breathes. 18 This is indeed the recitation of an honoured Noble Messenger. (Angel Jibreel – peace and blessings be upon him.) 19 endowed with power and held in honour by the Lord of the Throne -- 20 obeyed, and honest. 21 And your companion is not gone mad. 22 And he has already seen Gabriel in the clear horizon. 23 he is not niggardly of the Unseen. 24 And the Qur’an is not the recitation of Satan the outcast. 25 So where are you going? 26 This is merely a reminder to all mankind; 27 for everyone of you who wishes to follow the Straight Way; 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Lord of the Universe, so wills it [to show you that way]. 29
