He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
