In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, 1 keep vigil the night, except a little 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof, 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, 7 And remember the Name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with a complete devotion. 8 [He is] the Lord of the East and the West; there is no deity except Him, so take Him as Disposer of [your] affairs. 9 Bear patiently whatever they say, do not yield to them and keep on preaching decently to them. 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 Verily We shall have fetters with Us, and a roaring furnace, 12 And food that will stick in the throat, and painful torment 13 On the day the earth and mountains will rock violently, and the mountains turn to a heap of poured-out sand. 14 Verily We! We have sent unto you an apostle, a witness over you, even as We sent unto Fir'awn an apostle. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 Then how shall ye, if ye deny (Allah), guard yourselves against a Day that will make children hoary-headed?- 17 The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. 18 This, verily, is a reminder: let him who wills, then set out on a way to his Sustainer! 19
