The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and warn! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 And your clothing purify 4 And all defilement shun! 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he thought; 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
