Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
