The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ I swear by this city, Makkah - 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And by oath of your forefather Ibrahim, and by you – his illustrious son! 3 We verily have created man in an atmosphere: 4 Does he think that no one can overpower him? 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 [It is] the freeing of one's neck [from the burden of sin,] 13 Or feeding on a day of severe hunger 14 an orphaned relative 15 or of a needy [stranger] lying in the dust 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise), 18 And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
