The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
WOE TO THOSE who give short measure, 1 Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, exact full measure, 2 but when they have to measure or weigh whatever they owe to others, give less than what is due! 3 Do they not think that they will be resurrected 4 On a Mighty Day, 5 a Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 Nay! Truly, the Record (writing of the deeds) of the Fujjar (disbelievers, sinners, evil-doers and wicked) is (preserved) in Sijjin. 7 And what will make you know what the Sijjin is? 8 It is a Book inscribed. 9 Ah the woe that day for those who deny, 10 Who give the lie to the day of judgment. 11 and none cries lies to it but every guilty aggressor. 12 When Our Signs are rehearsed to him, he says, "Tales of the ancients!" 13 By no means! Aye! encrusted upon their hearts is that which they have been earning. 14 Verily, from (the Light of) their Lord, that Day, will they be veiled. 15 Then indeed they have to enter hell. 16 Further, it will be said to them: "This is the (reality) which ye rejected as false! 17 But, the Book of the righteous is in the 'Illiyoon. 18 And what will make you know what the highest Iliyin is? 19 a written record, 20 Which is witnessed by those brought near [to Allah]. 21 Verily the pious will be in heaven, 22 (reclining) upon couches they will gaze, 23 You can trace on their faces the joy of their bliss. 24 They are given to drink of a pure wine, sealed, 25 Whose seal is musk - for this let (all) those strive who strive for bliss - 26 and its mixture is Tasneem, 27 A spring, from (the waters) whereof drink those Nearest to Allah. 28 BEHOLD, those who have abandoned themselves to sin are wont to laugh at such as have attained to faith 29 And, when they passed them, to wink at each other, 30 When they returned to their people they returned jesting; 31 and when they saw them they said, 'Lo, these men are astray!' 32 No one has appointed them to watch over the believers. 33 So today those who believe shall laugh at the unbelievers; 34 while reclining on couches and reviewing (the bounties given to them). 35 Are not the disbelievers paid for what they used to do? 36
