The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Muhammad SAW) enveloped (in garments)! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 Purify your inner self, 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
