The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
