The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 arise, and warn! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And your garments purify! 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 He looked (at others); 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
