▼ 56 The Inevitable
Al-Waaqe'ah 2 of 3
a large group of the earlier people 39 And a multitude of those of later time. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 In hot wind and boiling water, 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 But persisted in that greater sin, 46 And they used to say: What! when we die and have become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised? 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time 49 "They will all be gathered together - on the appointed time of the known day." 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 Will eat of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 Then will fill your bellies with it. 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 We created you. Will ye then admit the truth? 57 So what is your opinion regarding the semen you discharge? 58 Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? 59 It is We Who ordained death upon you and We are not to be frustrated. 60 that We may exchange the likes of you, and make you to grow again in a fashion you know not. 61 And you have indeed learnt about the first creation, so why do you not ponder? 62 Have you ever considered the seed which you cast upon the soil? 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 If We willed, surely We would make it chaff, so that ye would be left wondering. 65 “We have been penalised; 66 nay; we have been undone!” 67 Have you seen the water which you drink? 68 Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Did you produce the tree that serves as fuel or do We? 72 It is We who have made it a means to remind [you of Us,] and a comfort for all who are lost and hungry in the wilderness [of their lives]. 73 Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty. 74
