Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Hast thou received the story of the Enveloper? 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 The while they enter the Blazing Fire,- 4 Made to drink water from the boiling hot spring. 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 In the high empyrean, 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 Countless springs will flow therein, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 And cushions ranged! 15 and outspread carpets. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And the mountains: how they were fixed? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
