The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And pollution shun. 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And children present [with him] 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he looked round; 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
