[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 "Will you, in your wanton folly, build [idolatrous] altars on every height, 128 and erect castles hoping that you will live forever. 129 When you lay hands upon anyone, you do so as tyrants. 130 "Now fear Allah, and obey me. 131 “Fear Him Who has aided you with the things you know.” 132 Who has provided you with flocks and children 133 and with gardens and springs. 134 Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 “This is nothing but the tradition of former people.” 137 and we shall not be chastised.' 138 So they belied him, and We destroyed them. Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Yet surely your Lord is mighty and merciful. 140
