The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
