The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the heaven is split asunder 1 hearing and obeying its Lord, as it must do; 2 And when the earth is stretched, 3 And casts forth what is within it and becomes (clean) empty, 4 And attentive to her Lord in fear! 5 O man, you are striving unto your Lord and you will meet Him. 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 He surely will receive an easy reckoning, 8 And will return to his family in joy! 9 But whosoever is given his Record behind his back, 10 He shall presently call for death, 11 and will enter the Blazing Fire. 12 He verily lived joyous with his folk, 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 But he will indeed! His Lord was ever watching him. 15 So indeed I call to witness the evening twilight, 16 or by the night in which things all come together to rest, 17 And the Moon in her fullness: 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 But what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 And when the Quran is recited to them they do not make obeisance? ۩ 21 In fact, they reject the Quran, 22 and God knows very well what they are secreting. 23 (Muhammad), tell them that they will all suffer a painful torment 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
