The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 arise and warn, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And your garments purify! 4 And stay away from idols. 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And made things easy for them. 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
