The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 And made the night a cover. 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Truly Hell is as a place of ambush, 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 Requital corresponding. 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
