The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 We have indeed created man surrounded by hardships. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 (He boasts and shows off) saying, "I have spent a great deal of money (for the cause of God)". 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 But he hath not attempted the Ascent - 11 And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is? 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 Or feeding on a day of severe hunger 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 Or the poor in distress; 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 The Fire will vault them over. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
