And to the Thamud [We sent] their brother Salih. He said, "O my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him. There has come to you clear evidence from your Lord. This is the she-camel of Allah [sent] to you as a sign. So leave her to eat within Allah 's land and do not touch her with harm, lest there seize you a painful punishment. 73 "And remember how He made you inheritors after the 'Ad people and gave you habitations in the land: ye build for yourselves palaces and castles in (open) plains, and carve out homes in the mountains; so bring to remembrance the benefits (ye have received) from Allah, and refrain from evil and mischief on the earth." 74 The leaders of the arrogant party among his people said to those who were reckoned powerless - those among them who believed: "know ye indeed that Salih is a messenger from his Lord?" They said: "We do indeed believe in the revelation which hath been sent through him." 75 The proud oppressors said, "We reject that which you believe in". 76 Then they hamstrung the she-camel and rebelled against the command of their Lord, and said: "Bring, O Saleh, on us the affliction you promise, if you are one of the sent ones." 77 Then they were seized by an earthquake, and lay overturned on the ground in their homes in the morning. 78 He turned away from them saying, "My people, I preached the Message of my Lord to you and gave you good advice, but you do not love advisors." 79 We sent Lot, who said to his people, "How can you commit an abomination such as no one in the world has ever done before you? 80 You engage in lustful activities with people instead of women. You have become transgressing people. 81 But the answer of his people was only that they said, "Evict them from your city! Indeed, they are men who keep themselves pure." 82 And We rescued him and his household, save his wife, who was of those who stayed behind. 83 We rained down on them a shower [of brimstone]. Then see what was the end of the evil-doers. 84
