Never have We sent a Prophet to a place without trying its people with adversity and hardship that they may humble themselves. 94 We then replaced their misfortune with well-being until they were relieved and began saying, "Our fathers had also experienced good and bad days." Suddenly, We struck them (with torment) while they were all unaware (of what was happening). 95 If the people of the towns had but believed and feared Allah, We should indeed have opened out to them (All kinds of) blessings from heaven and earth; but they rejected (the truth), and We brought them to book for their misdeeds. 96 Are the people of the townships then secure that Our wrath would not come upon them at night while they are slumbering? 97 Or, do they feel secure against the coming of Our punishment upon them in the forenoon while they are at play? 98 Did they consider themselves secure from the retribution of God? No one can have such attitude except those who are lost. 99
