Some of the Pharaoh's nobles considered him to be no more than a skillful magician 109 who seeks to drive you from your land!" Pharaoh said, "What then do you advise?" 110 They answered: "Let him and his brother wait awhile, and send unto all cities heralds 111 “To bring all the expert magicians to you.” 112 And so the sorcerers came to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). They said: "Indeed there will be a (good) reward for us if we are the victors." 113 He answered: Yes, and surely ye shall be of those brought near (to me). 114 They said: "O Musa (Moses)! Either you throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 Moses said: 'You throw.' So when they threw [their rods], they enchanted the eyes of the people, and struck them with awe, and produced a mighty sorcery. 116 Then We directed Moses: 'Now you throw your rod.' And lo! it swallowed up all their false devices. 117 ۞ So, the truth prevailed and what they were doing was annulled; 118 they were defeated and turned belittled, 119 And the magicians were obliged to fall prostrate. 120 saying, "We declare our belief in the Lord of the Universe, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 Pharaoh said: Ye believe in Him before I give you leave! Lo! this is the plot that ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive its people hence. But ye shall come to know! 123 I shall cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides, and then crucify you all.' 124 They answered: "Verily, unto our Sustainer do we turn 125 “And what did you dislike in us, except that we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Pour (bestow abundantly) patience on us, and bestow us death as Muslims.” 126
