In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful

Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the clear Book. 1 We have sent it down as a clear discourse that you may understand. 2 We recount to you the best of narratives in revealing this Quran to you, even though you were unaware of it before it came. 3 When Joseph said, "Father, in my dream I saw eleven stars, the sun and the moon prostrating before me," 4 [Jacob] replied: "O my dear son! Do not relate thy dream to thy brothers lest [out of envy] they devise an evil scheme against thee; verily, Satan is man's open foe! 5 And thus will thy Lord choose thee and teach thee of the interpretation of discourses, and will fulfil His favour upon thee and upon the house of Y'aqub even as He fulfilled it upon thy fathers, Ibrahim and Is-haq aforetime; verily thy Lord is Knowing, Wise. 6
