Aaron had already, before this said to them: "O my people! ye are being tested in this: for verily your Lord is (Allah) Most Gracious; so follow me and obey my command." 90 But they answered: "By no means shall we cease to worship it until Moses returns to us." 91 Musa said: O Harun! what prevented thee, when thou sawest them going astray. 92 Did you disobey my orders?" 93 (Aaron) replied: "O son of my mother! Seize (me) not by my beard nor by (the hair of) my head! Truly I feared lest thou shouldst say, 'Thou has caused a division among the children of Israel, and thou didst not respect my word!'" 94 (Moses) said: "What then is thy case, O Samiri?" 95 He replied: "I saw what they saw not: so I took a handful (of dust) from the footprint of the Messenger, and threw it (into the calf): thus did my soul suggest to me." 96 He said: Begone then, surely for you it will be in this life to say, Touch (me) not; and surely there is a threat for you, which shall not be made to fail to you, and look at your god to whose worship you kept (so long); we will certainly burn it, then we will certainly scatter it a (wide) scattering in the sea. 97 But the god of you all is the One Allah: there is no god but He: all things He comprehends in His knowledge. 98 Thus We recount unto thee some tidings of that which hath preceded; and surely We have vouchsafed unto thee from before Us an admonition. 99 Whosoever turnoth away therefrom - verily they shall bear on the Day of Judgment a burthen, 100 They will remain in it forever – what an evil burden it will be for them on the Day of Resurrection! 101 The day when the Trumpet is blown. On that day we assemble the guilty white-eyed (with terror), 102 Whispering to one another: "You have tarried but ten days." 103 We know best what they will say. The most perceptive of them will say, "You stayed only one day." 104
