The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra; these are verses of the Book and the bright Qur’an. 1 Perhaps those who disbelieve will wish that they had been Muslims. 2 Let them eat and enjoy life, and let (false) hope beguile them. They will come to know! 3 And every dwelling that We destroyed, had a known decree for it. 4 [but remember that] no community can ever forestall [the end of] its term - and neither can they delay [it]. 5 They say: 'You to whom the Remembrance is sent down, you are indeed mad. 6 Why do you not bring to us the angels if you are of the truthful ones? 7 We send not the angels down except for just cause: if they came (to the ungodly), behold! no respite would they have! 8 then they would not be respited. It is We who have sent down the Remembrance, and We watch over it. 9 We verily sent (messengers) before thee among the factions of the men of old. 10 And not an apostle came unto them but at him they were wont to mock. 11 Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals. 12 They do not believe in it, and indeed the example of the former people has already passed. 13 And even if We open to them a gateway of heaven, so that they ascend into it all the while, 14 they would surely have said, "It is only our eyes that are spellbound! Nay, we have been bewitched! 15
