99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ A. L. R. These are the Ayats of Revelation,- of a Qur'an that makes things clear. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 leave them to eat, and to take their joy, and to be bemused by hope; certainly they will soon know! 3 And never did We destroy a town but it had a term made known. 4 No community precedeth the term thereof nor doth it fall behind. 5 And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad. 6 Why do you not bring down angels upon us if you are indeed truthful?" 7 But We send down the angels only to bring justice and then they will not be reprieved. 8 Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian. 9 And certainly We sent (apostles) before you among the nations of yore. 10 and never yet came an apostle to them without their deriding him. 11 So We make it enter the hearts of the sinners. 12 They will not believe in it, while there has already occurred the precedent of the former peoples. 13 And if We opened upon them a door of the heaven, and they passed the day mounting thereto. 14 They would certainly say: Only our eyes have been covered over, rather we are an enchanted people. 15

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
