The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. These are the Verses of the Book, and a plain Quran. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy life and let false hopes amuse them. They will soon come to know. 3 We never destroyed any town without pre-ordaining the fate of its people. 4 No community precedeth the term thereof nor doth it fall behind. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the Reminder is revealed, lo! thou art indeed a madman! 6 If you are a man of truth, why can't you bring the angels to us?" 7 But We send down the angels only to bring justice and then they will not be reprieved. 8 We Ourselves have revealed the Quran and We are its Protectors. 9 AND, INDEED, [O Prophet,] even before thy time did We send [Our apostles] unto communities of old 10 And never came a Messenger to them but they did mock him. 11 This is how We make the mocking* enter the hearts of the guilty. (* The acts of disbelief.) 12 they believe not in it, though the wont of the ancients is already gone. 13 And even if We open to them a gateway of heaven, so that they ascend into it all the while, 14 they would still have said: "Surely our eyes have been dazzled; rather, we have been enchanted." 15
