Verily We created man of potter's clay of black mud altered, 26 whereas the invisible beings We had created, [long] before that, out of the fire of scorching winds. 27 And (remember) when your Lord said to the angels: "I am going to create a man (Adam) from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud. 28 When I have shaped him, and breathed My spirit in him, fall you down, bowing before him!' 29 So the angels prostrated - all of them entirely, 30 But Iblis did not; he refused to be with the prostrates. 31 He said: O Iblis! What aileth thee that thou art not among the prostrate? 32 He said: I am not such that I should make obeisance to a mortal whom Thou hast created of the essence of black mud fashioned in shape. 33 (Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsir At-Tabari] 34 "And verily, the curse shall be upon you till the Day of Recompense (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)." 35 He said, "My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected." 36 Said He, 'Thou art among the ones that are respited 37 until the day of a known time." 38 He said: My Lord! because Thou hast made life evil to me, I will certainly make (evil) fair-seeming to them on earth, and I will certainly cause them all to deviate 39 "Except Your chosen, (guided) slaves among them." 40 Allah said: this is the path leading unto Me straight. 41 "Certainly, you shall have no authority over My slaves, except those who follow you of the Ghawin (Mushrikun and those who go astray, criminals, polytheists, and evil-doers, etc.). 42 And indeed, Hell is the promised place for them all. 43 it has seven gates: and each gate has a portion of them allotted to it. 44
