Verily We created man of potter's clay of black mud altered, 26 and the jinn We had created before from flaming fire. 27 And when your Lord said to the angels: Surely I am going to create a mortal of the essence of black mud fashioned in shape. 28 When I have formed him and breathed My spirit into him, fall down in prostration before him," 29 Therefore all the angels, each and every one of them, fell prostrate. 30 Except Iblis (Satan); he refused to be among those who prostrated. 31 He said: O Iblis! what excuse have you that you are not with those who make obeisance? 32 "How could I bow," said he, "before a mortal whom You created from fermented clay dried tingling hard?" 33 (Allah) said: "Then get thee out from here; for thou art rejected, accursed. 34 "And verily, the curse shall be upon you till the Day of Recompense (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)." 35 Iblis prayed, "Lord, grant me respite until the Day of Judgment". 36 "You are among the reprieved," (said the Lord), 37 Till the Day of the Time known. 38 (Iblis) said: "O my Lord! because Thou hast put me in the wrong, I will make (wrong) fair-seeming to them on the earth, and I will put them all in the wrong,- 39 except the devoted amongst Your worshippers. 40 (Allah) said: "This is the Way which will lead straight to Me." 41 and you have no authority over My servants except the erring ones who follow you. 42 Surely Hell is the promised place for all of them." 43 To it are seven gates: for each of those gates is a (special) class (of sinners) assigned. 44
