We created man from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape; 26 And the jinn, We had created them afore of the fire of the scroching wind. 27 And when your Lord said to the angels: Surely I am going to create a mortal of the essence of black mud fashioned in shape. 28 When I have completed shaping him and have breathed into him of My Spirit, then fall you down before him in prostration." 29 Therefore all the angels, each and every one of them, fell prostrate. 30 Except Iblis. He refused to bow with the adorers. 31 God asked him, "What is the matter with you, that you are not among those who have prostrated themselves?" 32 He said: I am not such that I should make obeisance to a mortal whom Thou hast created of the essence of black mud fashioned in shape. 33 God said, "Then get out of here; for you are accursed, 34 And lo! the curse shall be upon thee till the Day of Judgment. 35 Iblis said: "My Lord! Grant me respite till the Day when they will be resurrected." 36 The Lord said, "Your request is granted 37 Till the Day of appointed time. 38 [Whereupon Iblis] said: "O my Sustainer! Since Thou hast thwarted me, I shall indeed make [all that is evil] on earth seem goodly to them, and shall most certainly beguile them - into grievous error 39 Save such of them as are Thy perfectly devoted slaves. 40 Said Allah, “This path* leads straight towards Me.” (* The path of the chosen bondmen.) 41 “Indeed you do not have any power over My bondmen, except those wanderers who follow you.” (The devil is unsuccessful in tempting Allah’s chosen bondmen to commit sin.) 42 And indeed, Hell is the promised place for them all. 43 it has seven gates: and each gate has a portion of them allotted to it. 44
