And when the messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 He said, “You are an unfamiliar people.” 62 They said, 'Nay, but we have brought thee that concerning which they were doubting. 63 And bring thee the Truth, and lo! we are truth-tellers. 64 So set out thou with thy house hold in a portion of the night, and follow thou their backs, and let not one of you look back, and pass whither ye are commanded. 65 And We decreed unto him this commandment because the last of those was to be cut off in the early morning. 66 And the people of the city came rejoicing. (* To the house of Prophet Lut.) 67 [Lout (Lot)] said: "Verily! these are my guests, so shame me not. 68 “And fear Allah and do not disgrace me.” 69 They replied: "Did we not forbid you again and again to extend hospitality to all and sundry?" 70 Lot said, "These are my daughters if you want them." 71 By thy life, in their intoxication they were wandering bewildered. 72 So the rumbling overtook them (while) entering upon the time of sunrise; 73 And We turned (the towns of Sodom in Palestine) upside down and rained down on them stones of baked clay. 74 Verily therein are signs for men of sagacity. 75 And verily! They (the cities) were right on the highroad (from Makkah to Syria i.e. the place where the Dead Sea is now). 76 Surely, in that there is a sign for those who believe. 77 The people of the Wood were also surely wrongdoers. 78 So We inflicted retribution on them, and they are both, indeed, on an open road (still) pursued. 79
