The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Praise be to God who has sent down to His servant -- the Book, which is free from any ambiguity 1 right, to warn of great violence from Him, and to give good tidings unto the believers, who do righteous deeds, that theirs shall be a goodly wage 2 Wherein they shall remain for ever: 3 And to warn those who say: Allah hath chosen a son, 4 No knowledge thereof have they, nor had their fathers. Odious is the word that cometh out of their mouths; they say not but a lie. 5 Then perhaps you would kill yourself through grief over them, [O Muhammad], if they do not believe in this message, [and] out of sorrow. 6 We have appointed all that is on the earth an adornment for it, in order that We try which of them is finest in works. 7 And most surely We will make what is on it bare ground without herbage. 8 Did you know that the People of the Cave and People close to the Woods, were Our exceptional signs? 9 [Mention] when the youths retreated to the cave and said, "Our Lord, grant us from Yourself mercy and prepare for us from our affair right guidance." 10 Then We sealed up their hearing in the Cave for a number of years. 11 Then We raised them up (from their sleep), that We might test which of the two parties was best at calculating the time period that they had tarried. 12
