Aaron had already, before this said to them: "O my people! ye are being tested in this: for verily your Lord is (Allah) Most Gracious; so follow me and obey my command." 90 They had said: "We will not abandon this cult, but we will devote ourselves to it until Moses returns to us." 91 Musa said: O Harun! what prevented thee, when thou sawest them going astray. 92 That thou followedst me not! Hast thou disobeyed my command? 93 Aaron answered: "Son of my mother! Do not seize me with my beard, nor by (the hair of) my head. I feared that on returning you might say: 'You sowed discord among the Children of Israel, and did not pay heed to my words.'" 94 Said Moosa, “And what is your explanation, O Samri?” 95 He replied, "I had the skill (of carving) which they did not have. I followed some of the Messengers's (Moses) tradition, but I then ignored it. Thus, my soul prompted me (to carve a golden calf with an artificial hollow sound). 96 He said: Begone then, surely for you it will be in this life to say, Touch (me) not; and surely there is a threat for you, which shall not be made to fail to you, and look at your god to whose worship you kept (so long); we will certainly burn it, then we will certainly scatter it a (wide) scattering in the sea. 97 Your God is only Allah, the One other than whom there is no god. He comprehendeth everything in knowledge. 98 This is how We relate the former tidings to you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him); and We have given you a Remembrance* from Ourselves. (*The Holy Qur’an.) 99 Whoever turns away from it - then indeed, he will bear on the Day of Resurrection a burden, 100 therein abiding forever; how evil upon the Day of Resurrection that burden for them! 101 The Day when the Trumpet will be sounded: that Day, We shall gather the sinful, blear-eyed (with terror). 102 and they shall murmur among themselves: 'You have stayed away but ten (days and nights)' 103 We know best what they will say, when their leader most eminent in conduct will say: "Ye tarried not longer than a day!" 104
