۞ And indeed We bestowed aforetime on Ibrahim (Abraham) his (portion of) guidance, and We were Well-Acquainted with him (as to his Belief in the Oneness of Allah, etc.). 51 Abraham asked his father and his people, "What are these statues which you worship?" 52 They replied: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: Verily ye and your fathers were in plain error. 54 They said, 'What, hast thou come to us with the truth, or art thou one of those that play?' 55 He answered: "Nay, but your [true] Sustainer is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth - He who has brought them into being: and I am one of those who bear witness to this [truth]!" 56 “And, by oath of Allah, I shall seek to harm your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs.” 57 And then he broke those [idols] to pieces, [all] save the biggest of them, so that they might [be able to] turn to it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is of the wrongdoers." 59 They said: "We heard a young man talking (against) them who is called Ibrahim (Abraham)." 60 They said: bring him then before the eyes of the people, haply they may bear witness. 61 "Did you do this to our gods, O Abraham?" they enquired. 62 He said, "Rather, this - the largest of them - did it, so ask them, if they should [be able to] speak." 63 So they returned one to another, and they said, 'Surely it is you who are the evildoers.' 64 Again they were inverted upon their heads; saying, “You know well that these do not speak.” 65 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Do you then worship besides Allah, things that can neither profit you, nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon that which ye worship beside Allah! Will ye not then reflect? 67 They said, 'Burn him, and help your gods, if you would do aught.' 68 'O Fire' We said, 'be coolness and safety for Abraham' 69 They wished to entrap him, but We made them greater losers. 70 And We saved him and Lot [and brought them] to a land which We had blessed for all people, 71 And We bestowed him Ishaq, and Yaqub the grandson; and We made all of them worthy of Our proximity. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (men) by Our Command, and We sent them inspiration to do good deeds, to establish regular prayers, and to practise regular charity; and they constantly served Us (and Us only). 73 To Lot We gave knowledge and wisdom and saved him from the people of the town who were committing indecent acts. They were certainly a bad and sinful people. 74 We encompassed him in Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
