۞ Surely We had bestowed wisdom upon Abraham even earlier, and We knew him well. 51 Recall what time he said unto his father and his people: what are these images to which ye are cleaving? 52 They said, “We found our forefathers worshipping them.” 53 Said he: "Indeed, you and your forefathers have obviously gone astray!" 54 They said: "Are you expressing your true ideas before us or are you jesting?" 55 'No' he answered, 'your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Originator of them, and I am among those bearing witness to it. 56 By Allah, I will certainly outwit your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone' 57 He broke all the idols into pieces, except the biggest among them so that perhaps people would refer to it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is of the wrongdoers." 59 They said: We heard a youth make mention of them, who is called Abraham. 60 [The others] said: "Then bring him before the peoples eyes, so that they might bear witness [against him]!" 61 They said, "Art thou the one that did this with our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He said, "Rather, this - the largest of them - did it, so ask them, if they should [be able to] speak." 63 Then gathered they apart and said: Lo! ye yourselves are the wrong-doers. 64 Then they were made to hang down their heads: Certainly you know that they do not speak. 65 He said: What! do you then serve besides Allah what brings you not any benefit at all, nor does it harm you? 66 "Fie upon you, and upon that which you worship besides Allah! Have you then no sense?" 67 They exclaimed: "Burn him, and [thereby] succour your gods, if you are going to do [anything]!" 68 But We said, "Fire! Be cool and a means of safety for Abraham." 69 They had devised an evil plan (against Abraham), but We turned it into failure." 70 And We delivered him as well as Lut (removing them) to the land which We had blessed for all people. 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in addition, and all [of them] We made righteous. 72 And We made them leaders to guide (the people) by Our command; and We inspired them to perform good deeds and observe their moral obligations and pay the zakat; and they obeyed Us. 73 And (as for) Lut, We gave him wisdom and knowledge, and We delivered him from the town which wrought abominations; surely they were an evil people, transgressors; 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy; indeed he is among those who deserve Our proximity. 75
