And when thy Lord called to Moses, 'Go to the people of the evildoers, 10 The people of Firon: Will they not guard (against evil)? 11 : He said: "O Lord, I fear that they will deny me. 12 and then my breast will be straitened and my tongue will not be free: send, then, [this Thy command] to Aaron. 13 As for me, they hold the charge of a crime against me. I fear they will put me to death." 14 Allah said: "By no means! proceed then, both of you, with Our Signs; We are with you, and will listen (to your call). 15 "So go forth, both of you, to Pharaoh, and say: 'We have been sent by the Lord and Cherisher of the worlds; 16 Let the children of Israel go with us!'" 17 [But when Moses had delivered his message, Pharaoh] said: "Did we not bring thee up among us when thou wert a child? And didst thou not spend among us years of thy [later] life? 18 And thou didst that thy deed which thou didst; and thou art of the ingrates. 19 He (Moses) replied: 'Indeed, I did that when I was among those who stray. 20 and I fled from you because I feared you. But [since] then my Sustainer has endowed me with the ability to judge [between right and wrong,] and has made me one of [His] message-bearers. 21 And this is the favour with which you taunt me -- that you have enslaved the Children of Israel?" 22 Pharaoh said: "And who is this Lord of the Universe?" 23 Moses answered: "The Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them, if you were only to believe." 24 Said he to those about him, 'Do you not hear?' 25 [And Moses] continued: "[He is] your Sustainer, [too,] as well as the Sustainer of your forefathers of old!" 26 Said he, 'Surely your Messenger who was sent to you is possessed!' 27 [But Moses] went on: "[He of whom I speak is] the Sustainer of the east and the west and of all that is between the two - as you would know]" if you would but use your reason!" 28 Said [Pharaoh]: "Indeed, if thou choose to worship any deity other than me, I shall most certainly throw thee into prison! 29 He said, 'What, even though I brought thee something so manifest?' 30 Pharaoh said: "Then bring it if you are truthful at all." 31 So he cast his staff, and behold, it was a serpent manifest. 32 And he drew forth his hand, and lo! it appeared white to the onlookers. 33
