Said [pharaoh] unto the great ones around him: "Verily, this is indeed a sorcerer of great knowledge 34 Who wants to drive you out of your land by his sorcery. Now what do you advise?" 35 They said: "Put him off and his brother (for a while), and send callers to the cities 36 “To bring to you every expert great magician.” 37 So the magicians were assembled at a set time on a day made known. 38 And it was said to the people, "Will you congregate 39 That we might follow the magicians if they are the predominant?" 40 And when the magicians came, they said to Firon: Shall we get a reward if we are the vanquishers? 41 Answered he: "Yea - and verily, in that case you shall be among those who are near unto me. 42 Moses said to them, 'Cast you down what you will cast.' 43 So they cast their ropes and rods, and said: "By the glory of Pharaoh, we shall be victorious." 44 Thereafter, Moses threw down his rod and behold, it went about swallowing up all the false devices they had contrived. 45 so the sorcerers were cast down, prostrating themselves, 46 And said: "We (affirm and) believe in the Lord of all the worlds, 47 and the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 48 He (Pharaoh) said: 'You have believed him before I have given you permission. He is the chief of you who has taught you sorcery. But you shall know. I will surely cut off on opposite sides a hand and a foot, and crucify you all.' 49 They said: "No harm! Surely, to our Lord (Allah) we are to return; 50 We certainly hope our Lord will forgive our sins as we are the first to believe." 51
