He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 So you are after him! 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and fearfully, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
