[Pharaoh] said to the eminent ones around him, "Indeed, this is a learned magician. 34 Who wants to drive you out of your land by his sorcery. Now what do you advise?" 35 They said: "Detain him and his brother for a while and send forth heralds to the cities 36 to mobilise all skilled magicians." 37 So the magicians were assembled at a set time on a day made known. 38 And it was said to the people, "Will you congregate 39 The people said, “Perhaps we may follow the magicians if they are victorious.” 40 When the magicians came, they asked Pharaoh, "Shall we have a reward, if we are the winners?" 41 He said: "Yea, (and more),- for ye shall in that case be (raised to posts) nearest (to my person)." 42 [And] Moses said unto them: "Throw whatever you are going to throw!" 43 So they threw their ropes and their sticks, and said: "By the might of Fir'aun (Pharaoh), it is we who will certainly win!" 44 [But] then Moses threw his staff - and lo! it swallowed up all their deceptions. 45 And the magicians were thrown down prostrate; 46 They said, “We have accepted faith in the Lord Of The Creation.” 47 the Lord of Moses and Aaron.' 48 Pharaoh said: "You accepted the word of Moses even before I granted you the leave to do so. Surely he is your chief who has taught you magic. Soon shall you come to know. I shall cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides and shall crucify all of you." 49 They said: No harm; surely to our Lord we go back; 50 "Verily! We really hope that our Lord will forgive us our sins, as we are the first of the believers [in Musa (Moses) and in the Monotheism which he has brought from Allah]." 51
