(Pharaoh) said unto the chiefs about him: Lo! this is verily a knowing wizard, 34 Who desires to turn you out of your land with his magic; what is it then that you advise? 35 They answered: "Let him and his brother wait a while, and send unto all cities heralds 36 "To bring up to you every well-versed sorcerer." 37 So the wizards were gathered together at a set time on a day appointed. 38 and the people were told, "Will you also gather together, 39 so that we may follow the magicians, if they be the winners." 40 And when the magicians came, they said to Firon: Shall we get a reward if we are the vanquishers? 41 He said, "Yes, and indeed, you will then be of those near [to me]." 42 Moses said unto them: Throw what ye are going to throw! 43 So they cast their ropes and staffs, saying: 'By Pharaoh's might, we shall be the victors' 44 Therefore Moosa put forth his staff – so it immediately began swallowing all their fabrications. 45 so the sorcerers were cast down, bowing themselves. 46 saying: "We (now) believe in the Lord of the Universe, 47 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 48 [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] said: "You have believed in him before I give you leave. Surely, he indeed is your chief, who has taught you magic! So verily, you shall come to know. Verily, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will crucify you all." 49 They said: No harm; surely to our Lord we go back; 50 Surely we hope that our Lord will forgive us our wrongs because we are the first of the believers. 51
