The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount; 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 On fine parchment unrolled, 3 by the much-visited House, 4 And the lofty roof. 5 And by the Ocean filled with Swell;- 6 Most surely the punishment of your Lord will come to pass; 7 Of it there is no preventer. 8 On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 woe that day unto those that cry lies, 11 who divert themselves with idle chatter: 12 A day when they will be pushed, forcibly shoved towards the fire of hell. 13 "This is the fire which you were wont to call a lie! 14 Is this magic, or do you not see? 15 "Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds." 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 rejoicing in whatever their Lord has given them. Their Lord has saved them from the torment of the Fire, 18 [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do." 19 The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. 20 To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We shall provide them with fruit and meat, such as they desire. 22 There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, 23 ۞ They will be waited upon by immortal youths, like pearls hidden in their shells. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allah]. 26 But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire. 27 Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
